To move closer to your goals and create the life you really want to lead, what habits would you need to start implementing today?
This is a great, question to ask ourselves for many reasons. For one thing, it makes us take stock of where we are now and where we would like to arrive and how that would look.
The key part of the question for me though is ‘what habits would need to start implementing now?’
We all know there are many things we should be doing on a regular basis. Exercising, making healthy eating choices, educating ourselves, working on our growth, improving our finances and relationships…the list goes on and on.
These things don’t happen by themselves. It could be said it takes dedication, brute force and will to make them a reality, but only up to the point that it becomes a habit.
Hopefully, you don’t have to force yourself each morning and battle an internal dialogue about whether you should brush your teeth or not, you just do it. It’s a habit and therefore you give it no real thought.
The same can be true of anything.
Exercising on a regular basis used to be a constant mental battle that I’d often not win. That was until I decided to commit to it, every day for 30 days – the time it takes to create a habit.
After 30 days I would still try and talk myself out of it but I was used to doing it now so I just got on with it. Now I don’t even think about it because like brushing my teeth it has just become part of my day. it’s a habit.
I’ve used the same method over and over for taking what I know I should be doing but are mentally struggling with and turning it into a habit that requires little thought.
So here are your action steps:
- Read the question above
- Right out a list of the habits you would need to implement
- Pick just ONE habit to work on for now
- Commit to doing that thing every day for 30 days
